Forestry

The modern estate comprises of approximately 1100 acres of mixed farmland and 600 acres of forestry with Dalton Hall and its gardens at the centre.

The Home Farm and its walled garden used to supply the main house with most of its meat, milk, eggs, fruit and vegetables but has been converted to form the Dalton Hall Business Centre.

Dalton Crags, 294 acres of native woodland and limestone pavement is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is leased to the Forestry Commission. Public access is encouraged and a car park and picnic area has been provided by the Burton-in-Kendal Parish Council and the Forestry Commission on the road between Burton and Hutton Roof.
